Top 5 Countries That Have Already Switched to Solar Energy
December 16, 2016 | Posted by: Rich Price
As time passes by, we can see the world slowly deteriorate due to environmental neglect and excessive wastes whether in consumer goods, or utilities like gas, water, and electricity. The more artificial and accessible a product is, the more harmful it becomes for the environment especially when most consumers turn a blind eye to its devastating effects. Maybe we should’ve switched to solar energy decades ago…
Luckily, despite all these, there are still people and organizations pushing for green living. What’s more exciting is that most national governments are finally taking the necessary steps to promote this advocacy. One of the advances these governments have developed and are continuously promoting is solar energy.
Solar energy is the use of the natural energy from the light of the sun.
Not only does this cut electrical bills, it also does not pollute the air! The use of a natural light source that does not consume can definitely combat the energy that is produced by utilizing consumable resources that produce pollution. It can also be accessed by far-flung areas and it greatly affects the increase in a country’s economy and quality of living.
According to solar energy visionary, Elon Musk, if we can keep up our pace with promoting solar energy, by the year 2031 the entire world and all its inhabitants can be finally independent of other energy sources like oil, charcoal, and natural gasses, be rid of air pollution and have a longer life expectancy.
The US Energy Information Administration says “The global energy consumption by 2030 is 678 quadrillion Btu = 198,721,800,000,000 kilowatt-hours divided by 400 kilowatt-hours of solar-energy production per square meter of land (based on 20% efficiency, 70% sunshine days per year and the fact that 1,000 watts of solar energy strikes each square meter of land on Earth) = 496,805 square kilometers of solar panels (191,817 square miles).”
Based on Business Insider’s latest data published last March 2016, the total cumulative solar energy capacity measured for the entire world is 177,003 megawatts. This is enough energy source to give electricity to over 29 million households.
They have also observed that earlier surveys have measured which countries have generated the rawest power from solar and not which ones have provided the greatest percentage of energy to most households. The shocking observation is that the small countries like Germany, Japan, and Italy are actually dominating the solar power consumption over the United States.
Here are the top five countries that have now switched to solar energy:
01. Germany: 35.7 gigawatts solar capacity installed, 38,250 megawatts provided
02. China: 18.5 gigawatts solar capacity installed, 28,330 megawatts provided
03. Japan: 13.9 gigawatts solar capacity installed, 23,409 megawatts provided
04. Italy: 17.8 gigawatts solar capacity installed, 18,622 megawatts provided
05. United States: 12 gigawatts solar capacity installed, 18,317 megawatts provided
Solar power is obviously here to stay for centuries. Many companies have already switched to solar energy. How about you? Will you go solar today?
